Voice Recognition
Voice Recognition is a relatively new method, whereby speech functions as the means of communication between humans and computer systems. Voice recognition is used to record data the user says out loud. The user also receives spoken instructions from the system.
In practice this works as follows:
A
user is equipped with a mobile computer (various types of PDA are suitable) and a headset that features a microphone. The mobile computer runs a Voice Client. The Voice Client communicates with the central system, for example an ERP, WMS or MES, via a wireless network. The central system sends the data for a particular assignment to the mobile computer. The Voice Client converts the assignment into spoken instructions which the user hears through his/her headset. The user can talk back 'normally'. Their voice is recognised by the Voice Client, converted into data and sent back to the central computer system.
The advantage of Voice Recognition is that users have their hands and eyes free to carry out their work and this enables them to concentrate on their core task. The user can communicate in the most natural way possible with the computer system, using speech.
Using Voice Recognition dramatically raises both the productivity and accuracy of your business process.
Voice Recognition applications:
• Warehouse processes such as order picking, moving goods and stock inventories.
• Quality checks and inspections
• Service processes such as recording meter data and meter readings.
• Healthcare
