History
Dalosy was founded in 1976, during an era in which demand for new systems and solutions developed on the American retail market. In order to increase their available shop floor space, American supermarkets converted their warehouses into shopping spaces. This resulted in reduced stocks on the premises and companies were forced to rapidly and efficiently reorder and restock products. The first mobile computers date back to this era. These enabled the orders to be entered right by the shelves. A modem was then used to electronically send the orders to the central computer.
In the Netherlands, Dalosy was the first company to market this type of mobile computer and the accompanying modems. Analogous to the USA, these systems were initially used by supermarkets in the Netherlands. Other retailers subsequently discovered mobile solutions.
Barcode scanning
The barcode was introduced around the same time. Barcode technology was soon combined with mobile computers. Orders could then be registered in shops by simply scanning a barcode, for example. Instead of manually entering a product number, you could now read and enter it automatically using a barcode scanner. This was not only faster, but also reduced the number of wrongly entered product numbers. Dalosy was the first to supply the equipment required to read barcodes in the Netherlands. Back then, this technology was almost solely used for reorders and stock management. Nowadays, barcode scanners are indispensable parts of our lives and Dalosy supplies a wide range of hand terminals, truck terminals, barcode scanners and printers. All our solutions are accurately attuned to the latest innovations and the client's applications and needs.
Further optimisation
Soon after the introduction of the first hardware for the scanning and printing of barcodes, demand developed for software applications. Initially based on the need to optimise orders on the shop floor, but later also in other fields, such as software for the computerisation of warehouse processes. The developments in the field of software have continued steadily. Over the years, both standard and client-specific solutions have been developed for various markets including Retail (shop floor computerisation, etc.), Transport & Logistics (Warehouse Management Systems, Proof of Delivery) and Energy (meter reading systems).
Tools and technologies
Nowadays, Dalosy uses the latest Microsoft tools such as Visual Studio, SQL Server and Dynamics Mobile Development Tools. The company uses these to develop mobile applications for Windows Mobile and CE. Dalosy has an experienced, motivated team of software engineers. New technologies such as RFID and Voice have been introduced in recent years which, in certain situations, provide an excellent alternative to barcodes. Because Dalosy has already gained ample experience with them, we also provide solutions that include RFID and/or Voice.
